Pacific Green Palmwood CarePALMWOOD CARESince our new environmental processing was implemented in early 2001, Palmwood has retained a high degree of stability and usability. What you have is a natural product, Palmwood impregnated with wax, so comprehensively impregnated that there is little or no moisture remaining.
Each piece of Palmwood has the individual features and natural characteristics of the tree it came from. No two pieces are ever the same. Different colors can occur in the one piece. No flat surface-top will ever have matching pieces. Neither nature nor Pacific Green intended our surfaces to be other than "as is". We recommend that you polish Palmwood on a regular basis, this adds lustre and looks great. You can use a beeswax based product. Use it sparingly as it is hard to buff. It is easy to apply and relatively pleasurable to polish. Keep furniture away from open fires and direct sunlight. Use a protective covering to protect table surfaces. If there is mould or bloom, remove it with diluted vinegar. LASTING and FITTINGSMost of our "hardware" is brass or steel. Our lashings are made from plated steel wire wrapped in a leather sheath. Each piece of furniture is handcrafted by indigenous artisans. They place great emphasis on the intrinsic value of their work; based on their material selection; their traditional tying methods and attention to detail they deem important. Unlike many western consumers they still believe that all things are like nature - not necessarily perfect. Minor imperfections are simply part of the process of making "workable" objects.
LEATHERNatural leathers are basically impossible to keep in a pristine state. It's not because of the quality - all our current hides are "AA" grade ( with a minimum thickness of 1.2mm). Natural leathers have no pigment top finish; the beauty of natural grain variation is therefore emphasised and the marks and scars of the animal are not covered up. These "markings" and colourations highlight the distinguishing difference of a superior product. This leather will appeal to those people who pride themselves on their ability to recognise real quality. Our natural leathers are all scotchguarded and UV Ray treated.
Our pigmented leathers are also "AA" grade and as such they are more resistant to general surface wear and tear. The pigment not only covers many of the marks and scars but it also acts as a protector to the actual hide. We recommend you follow these rules in the care of your leather:
Please Remember: a) whatever the prevention method employed, leather (like our own skin) will mark in the passage of time b) There are organizations that specialize in service and revitalizations of leather and upholstery. If you have a problem call an expert. |
